Albert Bierstadt: Yosemite Notecard FolioProduct DescriptionPossessing a formidable landscape vision, acquired during student years in Düsseldorf, Germany, Albert Bierstadt turned to the American West in 1859, recording scenery on a scale that only his contemporary Frederic Church could match. When Bierstadt arrived at Yosemite in 1863, he found an incomparable artistic resource with a wide range of stunning landscape formations. Gates of the Yosemite and Cathedral Rocks are small miracles of observation and transcription. They reduce landscapes of awesome size to a smaller scale, retaining the power and breadth of the original view. Published with the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Contains five each of the following two notecards: Gates of the Yosemite, about 1882, and Cathedral Rocks, Yosemite Valley, about 1872. | ||||||
