| Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'! Book of PostcardsProduct DescriptionPosters and Sheet Music from the Musicals of Rodgers & Hammerstein After partnering with others, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II formed an enduring association that lasted seventeen years and yielded eleven musicals. The two had known each other for many years: Rodgers (American, 1902–1979) was twelve years old when he saw Hammerstein (American, 1895–1960) perform in a college variety show. When Rodgers and Hammerstein discovered a shared interest in Green Grow the Lilacs, a romantic drama set in nineteenth-century Indian Territory, they left their earlier partners to recast the play as a musical. Oklahoma! won tremendous applause and ran on Broadway for over two thousand performances, the spectacular beginning of a beautiful relationship.
