The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone 1,000-piece Jigsaw PuzzleProduct DescriptionReproduction of Thomas Moran (American, b. England, 1837–1926) The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone (detail), 1893–1901. In 1871, Thomas Moran accompanied a survey party in Montana’s Yellowstone region led by Dr. Ferdinand V. Hayden for the United States Geological Survey. The survey was an exciting adventure and an important scientific project. The group traveled through the region on horseback, and Moran often had only a brief period of time to capture his impressions of a site in a quick pencil sketch. When they returned to camp, he would add a small amount of color to his sketches. Moran’s watercolors and paintings were instrumental in convincing Congress to establish Yellowstone as the first national park of the United States in 1872. Thirty years after his first trip to Yellowstone, Moran completed his painting The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, which, with dimensions of roughly eight by fourteen feet, was among the grandest works of his career. Published with the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Thoughtfully conceived and engagingly intricate, our 1,000-piece interlocking jigsaw puzzles combine superb color reproduction, stunning and unusual images, and sturdy construction to delight generations of novice and veteran puzzleworkers.
